We share the results of our third investigation "Technology with a purpose" in Barcelona


We have presented our third investigation "TECHNOLOGY WITH PURPOSE. The social impact of the company in the digital age ”at IESE Business School, in Barcelona. This is a report that reflects the research carried out in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and that analyzes the new responsibility that companies have in the face of this new reality. At the same time, the report includes an action guide to help companies achieve greater social impact through the use of technologies.

The aim of the presentation, aimed at large, medium, and small companies, has been to delve into the opportunities of technology to improve the lives of groups at risk of exclusion. To this end, during the conference special mention was made of the important role that Spanish companies have to contribute to change, to favor and assist inclusive growth through the use of technology.

During the morning there have been different presentations and dialogues focused on answering questions raised in the report on how to promote technological change that responds to the social challenges posed by the Sustainable Development Goals for the year 2030 or how to link the technological development of the business. with the social impact. In short, how technology improves the lives of those who are in a vulnerable situation.

The act had a plenary session in which the conclusions of the report and recommendations by the OECP were presented. This session was starred by Joana Prats, director of the Department of Collaborations with Social Entities of the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation and member of the Business Observatory against poverty, Ms. Mónica Gil-Casares, director of Research, Social Innovation and Consulting of the Foundation CODESPA and spokesperson for the Business Observatory against Poverty and Mr. José Carlos Sánchez, Publications Coordinator for Prodigioso Volcán. Also, different professionals participated during the conference on the size of Eduardo Conde, Vice President of the CODESPA Foundation, Mr. Joan Fontrodona, Professor of Business Ethics at the IESE Business School, and Mr. Oisin Walton, Head of the Instant Network at the Vodafone Foundation, among others.

Joana Prats, director of the Department of Collaborations with Social Entities and Transversal projects of the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation and member of the Business Observatory against Poverty, highlighted the entity's effort and commitment “with all those groups that are fighting for a society fairer and more egalitarian, where vulnerable people have real opportunities for social insertion ”.

For her part, Mónica Gil-Casares, Director of Research, Social Innovation and Consulting at the CODESPA Foundation explains: “From the Business Observatory against Poverty, we want this publication to help companies and organizations place technology at the service of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals ”.
